I spent my 30's trying to find the best way to lose the extra pounds, increase muscle tone and keep a balanced life, and look my best. Like many women, my workouts consisted mostly of cardio. I ran a couple of marathons and I actually found that I ended up eating much more than usual, since "I deserved it" from all the long hours I logged running. And I was not noticing the changes I wanted. After my running phase ended, I tried spinning, which I loved so much that I became an instructor and still am today. Next I added strength training to the mix. I didn't have a program to follow or a coach to guide me so I was inconsistent and still had a layer of fat over my muscles. Frustrated, I started circuit training and paying more attention to my food intake. Finally, I got results! After years of rigorous exercise, it hit me like a ton of bricks that diet was the missing element.
In 2009, I made the decision to commit to a serious change. I started eating healthier, lifting heavier weights, increased my intensity and consistency with my workouts. What happened? I lost 7% body fat. My skin is clearer. I have more energy. I saw an increase in muscle definition. That layer of fat I mentioned earlier, finally disappeared!
This success laid the foundation for my career in health and fitness. I continue to keep current and stay educated on the latest traditional and non-traditional workouts. I'm an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and hold certifications in TRX Suspension Training, Kettlebell 1 & 2, Pre and Post-Natal and Schwinn, Keiser and SPIN indoor cycling.
In 2015 I completed the Precision Nutrition certification and became a PN Level 1 Coach.
Now in my 40's I continually look to challenge myself. Three years ago I competed in my first Fitness Figure Competition and in July 2016 I competed again. The most recent competition I hired a coach and placed 2nd in my age group. I was thrilled with the results and have kept up the workouts, water intake and food journalling. With both competitions I began the process 3 months before, by eliminating all processed foods and heavy weight training and cardio 5-6 times a week. As with each competition, I increased the time I spent on the stair climber and treadmill and I carb cycled my meals. The competition in July 2016 I was leaner and my body looked more defined. And that was at age 45.
I truly believe in the positive and long-lasting benefits of exercising and eating healthy.
